Centane – In a world full of stories waiting to be told Wanda Sofuthe, a freelance writer, journalist and language activist has captured the hearts and minds of readers across the country. Born in Centane and now residing in Johannesburg, Sofuthe has overcome challenges to pursue his passion for words and storytelling.
At a young age, Sofuthe discovered his love for writing, starting with sharing tales with his friends. As he grew older, his passion intensified more especially in high school, leading him to write his first book titled “Ubomi emva kwebaga leshumi elinambili.” The book serves as a powerful voice to inspire those who are still in school and those who are done with school.
“I wrote my book at a library in 2015 after I could not find work nor university. After matriculation it took me only two weeks to finish my book, the aim was to inspire others about my journey, I got support and advertisement for my book in 2021 at the centre for the books in Cape Town and school of National libraries of South Africa,” Said Sofuthe.
His inspiration for writing comes from his personal struggles and the pain he encountered after completing his high school education at Dutywa School of Excellence. Despite not being able to attend university or college due to circumstances back home, he had to find work and continued with his dream of writing.
As a language activist, Sofuthe loves and respects his indigenous language, IsiXhosa. His dedication to preserving and promoting the language is evident not only in his book but also in using IsiXhosa as a medium for his writing. “I love my home language IsiXhosa hence my book is in IsiXhosa, I am a language activist,” he added.
Sofuthe is a journalist and produces captivating narratives. His curiosity and hunger for the truth make him unafraid to shine a light on pressing issues that demand attention. Despite juggling multiple roles as a journalist, author, and brand ambassador, Sofuthe rarely finds time to rest.
“Journalists is a 24-hour call that needs you to be present, but with everything that I do now it only needs timing and discipline so that I can have time for everything,” Wanda.
As we eagerly await the publication of his new book, an upcoming non-fiction work he is currently working on. Titled “I Bleed the Naked Truth,” the book focuses on democracy, politics, education, and religion. With Wanda Sofuthe’s book selling and moving at 50-100 copies at a time it’s a testament to the power of perseverance and passion
