NGQELENI – The soulful vocalist plans to takeover the music industry, Avuyisiwe Mafutha a talented singer, songwriter and fine arts student at the University of Fort Hare; Alice campus, is making waves in the music industry with her soulful melodies and captivating lyrics. Born in Ngqeleni. Avuyisiwe goes by the stage name ‘Vee Inkosazana,’ a combination of her nickname ‘Vee’ and ‘Inkosazana’ a term her late grandfather used to call her.

Avuyisiwe is an introverted individual who found comfort and expression through her pen and paper, writing poems became her outlet for navigating through her emotions. With her guitar in hand and her heartfelt verses she made the decision to share her experiences and connect with people through her soulful music. She draws her inspiration from esteemed artists like Thandiswa Mazwai and the renowned Msaki. Avuyisiwe’s sound is a fusion of Afro music, Xhosa culture and a deep appreciation for the history of South Africans.

“After getting my guitar I felt like I should turn my poems into music so that people can relate to my music compared to the poems I am writing for competitions and my books,my music differs as I sing about my and my friend’s experiences,” Mafutha.

One of her greatest achievements is the song ‘African Soul Sisters,’a collaboration with her best friend Avuyisiwe Mapitiza whom they share love for Afro music and the rich cultural heritage of the Xhosa people, the song not only displays Avuyisiwe’s unique sound but also serves as a testament to her passion for promoting African music and storytelling.

“After writing the song African Soul Sisters there was no one I could think of collaborating with other than my friend as we share the same principles when it comes to music,” she adds.

As she gears up for the release of her upcoming EP, Avuyisiwe aims to inspire listeners to rediscover themselves and never lose sight of their dreams, through her music she hopes to provide a sense of closure and encouragement for individuals to stay true to their authentic selves.

The poem writer continues to say that, in her EP she will be mostly singing about bad love experiences, hope and taking opportunities as human beings as they come our way.

To promote her music, Avuyisiwe will use social media platforms, actively engage in live performances, and plans to host a launch event for her EP. Her biggest supporters include her mother, grandmother, and a growing community of followers on social media. Additionally, her peers and the arts department from school are an incredible source of support and encouragement throughout her musical journey.

“There are lot of challenges we come across as artist like support, getting record labels; I used to perform only in Aice but now I am getting gigs all the way to East London. As a person that was lazy and shy now, I am working hard to get this dream moving,”Vee Inkosazana.

With her talent, passion, and determination, Avuyisiwe Mafutha, aka Vee Inkosazana, is undoubtedly an upcoming artist that will take over Eastern Cape with her music and continue to inspire others as she gets aspirations from everyone.
