EAST LONDON – The Eastern Cape Development Corporation(ECDC) hosted the 5th annual export symposium on 17-18 August 2023 an event that left regional businesses buzzing with excitement. The Eastern Cape Export Symposium and Exhibition took place at East London International Convention Centre, drawing attention from all corners. With the theme ‘Global Trade Developments: Opportunity Knocks,’ this symposium aimed to unlock the potential hidden within trade agreements and booster the region’s export industry.
Delegates were treated to a wealth of knowledge and insights during the event’s second day, as they engaged in enlightening discussions led by esteemed speakers. These discussions peeled back the layers of the Eastern Cape’s export sectors uncovering the latest trends and indispensable statistical data. The intention was clear to equip regional businesses with the tools they need to elevate their export capabilities to new heights.
“The symposium aimed at showcasing the capability of the Eastern Cape and the export driven sector towards trade relationships,” Lizelle Maurice Executive Director at Border Kei Chamber of Business.
However the captivating lecture delivered by a lecturer and commentator from Rhodes University Dr Thapelo Tselapedi, Dr Tselapedi’s lecture about history of war, politics and trade, highlighted how these factors have shaped the balance of political agendas involving Russia, the United States of America, Europe and China. The aim was to show the positive impact that strategic alliances and diplomatic considerations can have on South African exports.
With a strong focus on post pandemic rebuilding this symposium focused on fuelling economic growth and fortify the region’s export industry.
“The importance of trade including export trade, it is a vehicle for job creation, and it is very key for the Africa continent,” Chief Executive Officer at ECDC Ayanda Wakaba.
Overall the Eastern Cape Export symposium and Exhibition provide to be a resounding success, providing regional business with knowledge, tools and connections needed to expand their reach and seize global trade opportunities.
