NGCOBO – It was a joyful moment at Nyanga secondary school in Ngcobo as rural excellence prevailed itself by taking center stage, learners were acknowledged for excelling within the ranks of scientific and development endeavours. An award ceremony was held at Nyanga SSS along MEC of Eastern Cape Department of Education Fundile Gade to honour this historic achievement.
The objective from the perspective of the MEC is that the capacity and talent should be nutured and invested on by all institutions of government, “It’s not an easy way to reach an international platform, remember they were competing there with first world countries but coming from a third world country and they made it as winners, we need to go beyond the so called curriculum and try to explore other new adventures using the capacity we have as a province, the other factor causing the collapse of social infrastructure is is lack of family unity, which makes the kids find themselves abused in various ways, we therefore as parents need to guide these children to success,” Gade.
This comes after learners Usisipho Duna and Lisakhanya Maliwa excelled in representing South Africa in the International Virtual Youth conference in lower Saxony, Federal Republic of Germany. These learners got to share their perspectives on Sustainable Development Goals for development of infrastructure, industrialization and support innovation and combating for climate change.
Amongst the achievers is grade 12 learner Lisakhanya Maliwa(18) who stated, “the experience of being in an international programme has brought me new knowledge, learners should not limit themselves by thinking that these projects are not for them because they come from deep parts of the rural areas, I am happy to be awarded today because i was actually not expecting anything,” Maliwa said.
The event was also attended by Dr AB Xuma Local Municipality Mayor Siyabulela Zangqa who was very optimistic and over joyed by such achievements for their area, “we are very happy that the people of Saxony have enlightened a partnership with the Eastern Cape, mainly the Nyanga secondary school on engagements of discussing innovations and climate change, we need to build a twin agreement so that this does not only end today but help us empower and upgrade the level of our education and also on our behalf as the municipality we will facilitate a platform and invite other institutions to participate on such interactions. I also spoke to the principal of the school and told him how i wish traditional chiefs were part of this event, this is for all of us so that we can build a better environment for us all,” stated Zangqa.
The award ceremony was held at Ngcobo on 14 August 2023.
