EAST LONDON – Empilo Healthcare and Mbanjwa Healthcare are joining forces to host a groundbreaking event the Nurses Indaba, on September 23rd 2023 in East London, Blue Lagoon Hotel. The Nurses Indaba aims to empower nurses and healthcare workers by providing them with valuable information and resources to start their own businesses and promote ethical practices within the nursing profession.
The organizers and hosts of the event Sister Namhla Mfecane from Empilo healthcare and Sister Vuyo Mbanjwa from Mbanjwa healthcare, were inspired by fellow nurses who frequently asked them about their successful journey in opening private clinics. With a desire to share their knowledge and support the healthcare community they decided to launch the Nurses Indaba.
The theme for the day will be ‘Nurse Entrepreneurship’, emphasizing the importance of nurses taking charge of their careers and exploring opportunities beyond traditional healthcare settings. The event will feature esteemed guest speakers, including Zanele Cekiso, Sebabatso Tsaoane, Mmakomane Khutlang, Siviwe Mahambehlala, and Engela Dutiot, who will share their insights and experiences in the field of nursing and entrepreneurship.
Sister Vuyo Mbanjwa expressed her enthusiasm for the event stating, “We want to equip nurses with the necessary skills and knowledge to start their own businesses by promoting nurse entrepreneurship, we can create more opportunities within the healthcare sector and contribute to the growth of our profession.”
Sister Namhla Mfecane highlighted the importance of addressing the negative perception surrounding nurses and ethics in the healthcare sector, “Unfortunately the nursing profession has gained a reputation for rudeness which is unfair and untrue. We aim to change that perception and showcase the ethical values that nurses uphold every day,” she explained.
To reinforce this message the slogan for this year’s event is, ‘Echoing the Importance of Ethics in the Nursing Profession.’ It serves as a reminder that nurses across South Africa are committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, professionalism and patient-centered care.
The Nurses Indaba promises to be a transformative event, equipping nurses and healthcare workers with the knowledge, skills, and inspiration needed to excel in their careers. By promoting nurse entrepreneurship and ethical practices, this gathering will not only benefit individual nurses but also contribute to the overall improvement of the healthcare sector.
