East London – In a remarkable effort to bridge the qualification gap, the Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority (HWSETA) along with Department of Social Development hosted the 312 community development practitioners in the Eastern Cape. They graduated with a formal qualification after successfully completing Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) courses. These dedicated practitioners, who boast extensive experience in the field, were honoured with an NQF Level 5 Community Development qualification at a prestigious ceremony held at the East London International Convention Center (EL ICC) on 26 October 2023.
The graduation ceremony was a momentous occasion, with the esteemed presence of the Minister of Department of Social Development Lindiwe Zulu. Minister Zulu’s attendance signified the government’s commitment to recognizing and supporting the invaluable work carried out by community development practitioners. This event did not only celebrate the achievements of these individuals but also highlighted the importance of their contributions to society.
“With the qualification that you are receiving here today–as Community Development Practitioners National Qualification Framework Level 5 Certificate, you are on the right path to meaningful contribution to the professionalisation of community development as a discipline and practice that will occupy its rightful position among the social service professions,” Minister of Social of Development Lindiwe Zulu.
The RPL courses have provided an opportunity for these practitioners to have their extensive experience and skills formally recognized. By undergoing a rigorous assessment process, they have demonstrated their competence and dedication to their craft. The NQF Level 5 Community Development qualification they will receive serves as a testament to their expertise and commitment to making a positive impact within their communities.
