MAKANA LM – Makana Local Municipality has been receiving raw water extracted at Howinspoort Dam and boreholes, and has been interrupted for weeks. The plan to end lack of access to clean and safe water in the area is moving at a slow pace than expected.
A target of adding ten mega liters from the James Kleynhans Water Treatment Works, had to be revised on the 30th of June 2023 due to poor management from the previous appointed contractor. The new revised date for the addition of the 10 mega liters is now 30 August 2023 and it’s the year end for the completion of the project. National Arts Festival was not interrupted by any water challenges.
Amatola Water conducted an assessment on the issue, and the reports show that the water cuts have been less due to the approach implemented.
Amatola Water statement, “A new pump has arrived at James Kleynhans Water Treatment Works to supply water to the east side of the town, which is very vital and essential , and it is being installed at the plant.”
A week to week assessment will be made by Amatola Water Treatment and penalties will be imposed to the new contractor if these water cuts continue to rise.
