EAST LONDON – Amidst fierce competition and anticipation the six districts of the Eastern Cape Province recently battled it out in a thrilling contest of tourism, hospitality, and consumer studies. The event, held at the prestigious East London International Convention Center, highlighted the talent and passion of grade 10 and 11 learners from various schools, Friday 11th August.
With the ultimate goal of securing a place in the National Tourism Career Expo the learners left no stone unturned highlighting their skills and knowledge in the tourism industry. After a challenging round and intense assessments only three exceptional learners emerged victorious, earning the honour of representing the province at the upcoming NASREC Expo centre in Gauteng.
The competition not only highlighted the academic prowess of the learners but also showcased their practical skills and ability to excel in the dynamic field of baking with the theme of ‘SAVE THE EARTH.’Through a series of practical tasks, presentations, and assessments, the learners demonstrated their understanding of the concept hospitality management and tourism principles even though educators and judges feel like they could have gone beyond into understanding more of the concept and applying more what they have been taught in class to their practicals.
There were only three categories Tourism, Hospitality and Consumer Studies. The winner for Tourism is Lwandlekazi Mshiyo; for Hospitality is Athandile Fadashe and for Consumer Studies is Mia Van Stumble
The journey to the National Tourism Career Expo promises to be an exciting one for these talented individuals, it will provide them with a platform to display their skills on a national level compete with learners from across the country and connect with industry professionals and potential employers.
The Eastern Cape Province is immensely proud of these three learners who have secured their position in the National Tourism Career Expo. Their achievement not only reflects their dedication and hard work but also highlights the potential of the Eastern Cape to produce future leaders in the tourism industry.
