Following the overwhelmingly well-received debut of his extraordinary Umngqungqo Orchestral Experience, the award-winning Dumza Maswana will deliver this offering in a more intimate package for his East London fans and followers on 21 October at Guild Theatre.
Dumza will be accompanied by his amazing band alongside Ntsika from The Soil and Gqeberha – The Empire star Likhey Booi with local traditional dance group Lulutho Institution and Metro FM’s Nothemba as MC for the day.
Together, they are set to regale the audience and present a memorable and engaging evening of singing, dancing and indulging in the carefully woven selection of songs, new and old.
Well-known for the singular depth of his soothing baritone voice, Dumza fuses tradition, spiritual, soul and jazz to create sonic experiences that uplift, inspire and heal. Being honest in his songs and music is perhaps one of his greatest features and his musical talent.
“I want to express my culture musically and to lyrically demonstrate my identity and beliefs. I want to make the use of our languages fashionable,” said Dumza.
The Umngqungqo Orchestral Experience sees Dumza perform with a 20-piece orchestra and a choir, the selections feature songs from his MOLO and Celebrating African Song albums.
This event is Dumza’s second performance after his return from India where he was part of the G20 collection of artists, this was also the reason why the show had to be moved to October. “It was really unfortunate that we had to postpone the event from 19 August to 21 October. But the India gig was too big to miss and I am truly sorry to all the fans that had already bought tickets but will miss this event” said Dumza. He continued to thank all the people who persistently supported his music.
Dumza is nominated at the 29th South African Music Awards for Best African Adult Album for his Celebrating African Song Album.
Tickets for the event are available from webtickets at R600 for a single ticket and R1000 for double tickets. The VIP tickets are said to have been sold out. The event is themed as a “black tie” experience.
The event is supported by BMW East London, Vodacom and Chumile Travel and Tours.
